Dear Members, Friends & Supporters,
With summer in full swing, our state is as busy as an ant hill in the cracks of my driveway. 48 hour film projects, fundraisers, filmmakers taking advantage of our fabulous weather and light and shooting over 30 projects across the state.
NMWIF was pleased to hold an incredibly informative session last week led by Leslie Fleming-Mitchell from the New Mexico Film Office answering just about any question you might have about how to take advantage of the film tax incentive. Very valuable information about timelines, accounting and LLC’S was shared and I think people walked away with a blueprint for how the state can support them in their filmmaking endeavors.
On Friday, August 3 we will be hosting a two hour Brown Bag Lunch & Learn. The first hour will feature Robyn Reede and Doranne Candelaria talking about lessons learned and how they spent their scholarship money. The second hour beginning at 1 o’clock is dedicated to an informational session about how to apply for scholarships from New Mexico Women in Film which will be granted in October. The scholarship money giveaway is my favorite time of year and a deep fulfillment of our mission. We are looking for members who need start up and finishing funds, want to expand their training by using money to pay for educational opportunities and are looking to get back into the film industry as a midlife career move. Please check the events listing for more details about our Brown Bag Lunch & Learn in Santa Fe on Friday, August 3.
Mark your calendars for NMWIF’s exciting and entertaining new event coming to Albuquerque on September 30 - The Power of Story. You won’t want to miss it.
Enjoy the weather and the myriad events around the state this month and
