Submissions Now Open: 2019 Regional Actors Showcase

Now in our 6th year, the New Mexico Film Foundation is going regional with its New Mexico Actors Showcase. The Actors Showcase is an opportunity for New Mexico’s great acting talent to present themselves to the public. And the showcase is meant to help actors raise the bar on their professionalism.

This is how it works: Actors will submit a 2 minute video audition using a monologue or a scene with a reader off camera. The use of video auditions is becoming a more popular way of casting, so it is important that actors know how to make a great video, including proper lighting, sound, setting, and of course their acting ability. Judging will be based on these qualities.

Call for Nominations: Women's Films in National Film Registry

Women in Film & Video, Washington D.C. continues its multi-year initiative to have more women-made films included in the National Film Registry housed at the Library of Congress. Although women have been involved with movies since the movie camera was invented, their work is severely underrepresented in this national collection.

The Library of Congress maintains the National Film Registry to honor “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant films” that are at least 10 years old at the time of their inclusion in the Registry. The selected films are “works of enduring significance to American Culture.” More information about the National Film Registry can be found here.

Public Nominations for 2018 will be accepted until September 15, 2018. You may recommend up to 50 titles per year through the Library of Congress’ online nomination form. To get you started on your 50 nominations we encourage you to include these women-made films:

BOYS DON’T CRY (1999) – written/directed by Kimberly Peirce
EVE’S BAYOU (1997) – written/directed by Kasi Lemmons
HE’S ONLY MISSING (1978) – written/directed/produced by Robin Smith
