Performance Dialects with Steve Corona

Steve Corona has helped actors in film, TV & theatre integrate dialects into their character work for over 11 years. This class teaches awareness of vocal instruments, oral posture and placement for voice/body connection. Actors will learn to use IPA as a tool for dialect preparation and on-set sound substitutions. Actors will learn 3 of the Top dialects in NM film & stage productions and record scenes in those dialects.

Set out on a course for fun and success in the exciting world of film and television!

We begin with a review of all-important audition skills, but quickly move beyond that to a comprehensive look at what it’s like to work on actual film sets. Students become conversant in the crew positions, lingo, and protocol of pro film sets, and begin to master the many technical challenges the film actor faces. We also take a lively and illuminating look at the all-important “biz” of acting, including finding agent representation, networking, headshots/résumés/reels, joining SAG-AFTRA, and much more.

Leslie Fleming-Mitchell will walk you through how and when to start your paperwork for the New Mexico Tax Incentive starting with the registration process. This topic is a must for anyone thinking about producing a film in New Mexico.

Screenwriting 101

6 sessions on Monday nights starting July 9th at Santa Fe Community College, 6401 Richards Ave., Santa Fe, NM 87508.

Examine the nuts and bolts of effective storytelling for film by looking at a five-act structure, plot points, dialogue, beginnings and endings and character development. Learn structure theories with lectures and discussions and review examples of existing films.

Most of the class time will be devoted to your work. Create an outline for an existing idea and complete the first few scenes of your screenplay which will be read aloud in class.  Instructor Aaron Leventman is a scholar of film history, an actor, writer, and curator for film festivals.
