The Physicality of Acting with Elaine Muray

In this 8 hour intensive over two consecutive Sundays, participants will learn techniques for employing physical approaches to acting and performing in film and on stage, including creating compelling characters and the physical life in which these characters exist.  Through hands on exercises students will explore a palette of creative choices in movement and gesture and explore the subtleties of the ways these choices express themselves when presented with external influences.  Designed for all actors of film, TV and stage as well as solo performers looking to manifest the key players in their scripts with eloquent and efficient physicality. For ages 16 and up. Participants should come dressed to move.  In the second session, students should come with a 5 minute script or story that they wish to work on.

Voice + Speech: Intro to Dialects with Catharine Pilafas

In Voice + Speech and Introduction to Dialects, actors will explore and garner the tools to free their natural human voice.  Actors will learn the Kristin Linklater and Rudolf Laban methods and develop awareness to recognize and shift unnecessary tension in the face, voice and body to evoke “relaxed readiness.” The class will also introduce the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) which is the basis of learning dialects. The dialects that will be taught: British, Irish, Russian, and German. Actors will practice a dialect of their choice in an assigned scene or monologue to be performed for the final class.
