President's Letter

July 2017

Dear Members, Friends & Supporters,

So much to celebrate amongst our film community here in New Mexico. Members films gaining recognition with awards and film festival selections, screenwriters becoming finalists in contests and optioning films, actors booking roles in numerous film and TV projects being shot here, studio spaces, location ranches, and production offices are booked through the end of the year, and they just renewed Better Call Saul for another season! What a great time to be making media in New Mexico.

Our June panel on the relationship between Directors and Editors was a wonderful exchange of information with six accomplished professionals sharing their insights on what makes for great collaboration. Big thanks to Board members Lisanne Cole and Shelene Bridge for organizing this very informative event. NMWIF is going to take a little event producing break and cede the stage to fellow organizations like New Mexico Film Foundation, whose big soiree we will be attending on July 22 (more information in the Industry Announcements section). We may hold a very informal Brown Bag Lunch and Learn with Linda McDill sometime this month at my house in Santa Fe to share our experiences at the WIFTI summit in London, and we are all looking forward to the screening of member Jilann Spitzmiller’s award winning feature documentary, Still Dreaming in August.

Also, be sure to read about the Santa Fe Network which will be featuring film works from our community and the upcoming 48 Hour Film Festival in the Call for Submissions section of this newsletter.

Stay creative, my friends, party like it’s 1776 (because liberty feels like a tenuous thing) and now, more than ever…

Keep Making Media,

Christine McHugh,
NMWIF President
