President's Letter

August 2017

Dear Members, Friends & Supporters,

The monsoons are here and everything is experiencing that revitalization that the summer rains bring. This nourishing moisture, just a little bit each day, is a wonderful metaphor for how an individual's career and passion can grow and flourish with a bit of nourishing encouragement.

At NMWIF, we are dedicated to encouraging our members through our scholarship program. Small grants from $100 to $1000 can make all the difference in finishing a film, paying tuition, attending a workshop or entering a film festival, and we are looking for those members who need just that little bit of water to bring their aspirations to fruition. Included in this years scholarship money is $500 that was a part of a very generous gift from our fellow film organization, the New Mexico Post Alliance. We will be giving this NMPA scholarship for the next five years towards someone seeking support in post production. Huge thanks to Brad Stoddard, Shawn Wayan and all of our friends at NMPA. We're happy that your good work and legacy can live on through NMWIF.

Scholarship applications are due on August 27th, and will be granted at our Sage Award event on September 17th. There will be an informational meeting about the 2017 Scholarships at the Dominguez Baca Community Center in ABQ this Friday from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Please check the "2017 Scholarship Grant Program for Members" page for more info on how to apply.

Friday and Saturday, August 24th and 25th is the annual New Mexico Film and Media Conference. This is one of the biggest events of the year for NMWIF and our film community, as it's a great networking event as well as the perfect introduction of what we do to those new to the community. We have a prominent presence in the vendors concourse and we always need volunteer members who are planning to attend the conference to sit at the table and answer questions about our organization. There will be multiple two hour shifts over the two days and we'd love to have your participation in continuing to make the NMWIF table the hub for information and great connections that it's come to be known for. Contact Arianna at for more info and to volunteer.

Social opportunities abound with a NMWIF mixer held in conjunction with New Mexico Film Foundation and Santa Fe Filmmakers next Tuesday, August 8 at 5pm to 8pm at The Bridge at Santa Fe Brewing Co. Come out and tell us about your 48 Hour experience or share what else you've been working on. Always a good time when the New Mexico film community comes together. Until we see you at one of these August events...

Keep Making Media,

Christine McHugh,
NMWIF President
