Dear NMWIF Members and Supporters,
Thank you all for making our many October events such a great success! Many hands make light work, especially with our Board and former board members’ great support. Last month alone, we were happy to welcome the board of WIFTI International to Santa Fe for a meet and greet with all of you; celebrate the wonderful Location Managers and beauty of our state, and provide an informative discussion with Producers of all levels at the Santa Fe Film Fest. We’ve announced our call for submissions for the 2011 WIFTI Short Films Showcase and we look forward to seeing all of the amazing work submitted by our members. Selected entries will compete with other films from around the world and the winner s will be screened at our annual Showcase in March. Scroll down for more details. This month, we are very pleased announce our first ever NM Women in Film Scholarship Program! Applications are downloadable on the home page. Open to all NMWIF members, we hope you’ll apply if you have any goals of pursuing further education or training in your field of interest. Applications are due by December 10, 2010.
We hope to see all of you at our November charity drive kick-off event this month (details below) and hope you enjoy some well-deserved rest on the Thanksgiving holiday. NMWIF NOVEMBER EVENT
Holiday Warm Clothing Drive & Conversations with Judy Blume
Sunday, November 14th 4pm-6pm
Santa Fe, NM
New Mexico Women in Film will kick off this year’s Holiday Warm Clothing Drive to benefit area homeless youth. Please bring clean and good condition warm winter clothing for donation. Donation boxes will also be available if you would like to place one in your place of business during the holiday season. Clothing donations will benefit the Youth and Family Shelter in Santa Fe, and shelters for youth and families in Albuquerque. We will be partnering with IATSE Local 480, Sunflower Markets in Santa Fe, Flying Star in Santa Fe, and Channel 26/27 in Albuquerque.
As part of our special November meeting, NM Women in Film is honored to be hosting a Conversation with Author Judy Blume. Judy is currently producing an Amber Entertainment film in Santa Fe based on her book "Tiger Eyes". She co-wrote the screenplay with her son Larry Blume, who is also directing. Adults as well as children will recognize Blume titles such as: Are You There God?; It's Me, Margaret; Blubber; Just as Long as We're Together; and the five book series about the irrepressible Fudge. She has also written three novels for adults, Summer Sisters; Smart Women; and Wifey, all of them New York Times bestsellers.

3rd Annual Recognition Celebration Honoring Women in Technology

The New Mexico Technology Council is hosting the 3rd Annual Recognition Celebration Honoring Women in Technology. This breakfast event will have two esteemed presenters this year: Martha Burk - Governor Richardson's special policy advisor on women's issues; and Katie Pushor, founder of Inner Capital, a company formed to serve the developmental needs of business and community leaders throughout the arc of their career. The event will be emceed by Katie Snapp, owner of Skirt Strategies. We will be recognizing many exceptional New Mexican women who are working in a technology field and who encourage other women to pursue careers and leadership roles in technology. In recognition of the vital need for excellent technology education, NMTC and its sponsors will award scholarships to young women in the state of New Mexico pursuing a degree in an information technology (IT) field.

Call For Submissions:
Women in Film and Television International Short Film Showcase 2011
NM Women in Film announces its call for short film entries for the 6th annual WIFTI Short Film Showcase 2011. We are looking for short film submissions no longer than 15 minutes, which have been completed between the years of 2008-2010.
Films must include women in three of the following categories: Director, Producer, Writer, Director of Photography, Animators and/or Editor. We encourage submissions featuring strong female characters and stories about women.
A committee from NM Women in Film will select our Chapter’s two winning entries. These films will be submitted to compete with films from WIFTI Chapters all over the world. Winners of the competition will be included in the WIFTI Short Film Showcase 2011, which will be viewed by all International Chapters, including New Mexico, in March of 2011.
Film Format Criteria: Send two copies of your film on NTSC format DVD’s only. Other formats (PAL, SECAM, etc.) will not be considered.
Submission Application: Complete the application and include your entry fee of $20, along with your film copies. Check or money order payable to NMWIF.
Deadline for Submissions: Postmarked by November 20, 2010.

2011 Birds Eye View Film Festival, London
Submissions for the 2011 Birds Eye View Film Festival are officially open.
We are seeking short film submissions from women filmmakers from around the globe, to be part of an innovative and inspirational celebration of talent.
All events will be held at leading London film venues, including the BFI Southbank and the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA).
The Birds Eye View Film Festival 2011 will open with a special gala screening of short films on March 6th at the BFI Southbank. The rest of the festival will include retrospective screenings, live music, workshops and master-classes, feature and documentary screenings and Q&A’s with inspirational women in film.

Women's Voices Now
Women’s Voices Now (WVN), a New York-based not-for-profit social enterprise is calling for film submissions for Women’s Voices from the Muslim World: A Short-Film Festival.
The Festival aims to give voice to women of all faiths living in Muslim-majority countries and Muslim women living as minorities around the globe. The Festival is a unique project that will highlight pro-women voices from within the Muslim World and present an unfiltered and honest account of these women’s stories-focusing on the struggle for freedom of expression and inalienable human rights. The scope of the films' subject must be pertinent to the spirit of the Festival and should address the experiences that shape these women's lives, the challenges that must be overcome before gender equality becomes the status quo, and the people who are making this transformation happen. We are looking for Documentary Shorts, Fiction Shorts, Experimental Shorts, Student Shorts
$35,000 IN CASH PRIZES:
Cash prizes totaling $31,000 will be awarded to the top three films in each category. Eight Honorable Mentions will receive an additional $4,000.

San Francisco International Women's Film Festival 2011
The Women's Film Institute announces its call for film and video entries in all lengths and genres for the 7th annual San Francisco International Women's Film Festival (SFWFF).
The deadline for submissions is December 1, 2010. Any questions regarding submissions can be emailed to sfwomensfilmfestival(@gmail.com or call (415) 754-3456.

The Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce and the New Mexico Film Office will present a free forum on business opportunities in the film industry. If you have ever wondered if and how your business or service could be a vendor for New Mexico’s film industry or if you simply want more information about how the film industry works with local vendors, this event is for you. Representatives from the State, Albuquerque and Bernalillo County film offices, and the IATSE Local 480 Film Technicians’ Union will explain how the industry utilizes local vendors and give examples of how locals have adapted their businesses or created new endeavors to meet the needs of production comp anies. Meet local crew and vendors who will share their personal experiences. New Mexico’s film initiatives are designed to benefit New Mexicans! There are more than 10,000 direct and indirect New Mexico jobs tied to the film industry, as well as more than 250 film-related businesses. This is your opportunity to learn more.
