March 2015 Newsletter

Letter From the President:

Dear Members, Friends and Supporters,

Some most excellent things are going on with NMWIF these days! First, we are proud to announce that our own Ann Bromberg is making big news with her film, Mbeti:The Road to Kisesini. Last week she was awarded Best Short Documentary at the International Filmmakers Festival of World Cinema in London. This week her film was named in the Top 4 of the Women in Film and TV International Showcase. Hers was the only US film chosen, along with Paris, India and New Zealand. We're especially proud because Ann was the recipient of a NMWIF Scholarship to help finish her film - and finish it, she did!

Our March 23rd Event features the Best of the 2015 Women in Film International Showcase - approx 90 minutes of powerful short films by women. WIF member/filmmakers from the 92 chapters around the world submit their films with hopes of being chosen for the international screenings around March's International Women's Day. We will screen our recently produced Public Service Announcement (produced by Valerie Moore for NM Film Foundation) and kick off the WIFTI Showcase with Ann Bromberg's film. She will be present to discuss her film and her experiences filming in Africa. Hope you can join us. It's always a treat to see what women filmmakers around the world are doing.

Thank you all for your votes in our board election last month. New board members elected are Christine McHugh and Ashley Baca. Christine will produce our NMWIF 2015 PSA; Ashley will serve as Membership Co-chair. We welcome them both and thank them for their time, talents and goodwill.

Save the date: Tuesday, April 28 in Santa Fe: NMWIF Athena Award Presentation and Table Reading of Bequest, by Joan Golden. Golden wrote the winning screenplay of NMWIF Screenwriter Competition:The Woman in the Story. Details to follow.

Girls Just Wanna Make Film! Our 10th Anniversary screening extravaganza is rolling!  NMWIF Film Fiesta submissions are coming in. Locations confirmed: Fri, 7/10 - Historic Fountain Theater, Las Cruces; Sat, 7/11 - the Guild Cinema, Abq; Sub, 7/12 Jean Cocteau Cinema, SFe. Next early bird submittal deadline is March 15. Get your film submitted at Big kudos to Film Fiesta Producer, Shelene Bridge.

Hope the coming season springs forward for you with all good things! See you soon.

Kindest regards,

In honor of International Woman's Day in March, NMWIF is proud to present the Women in Film & TV International Short Film Showcase.
In 1911 the United Nations put forth a day to celebrate the economic, political, and social achievements of Women past, present, and future.  This marks the 10th year Women in Film and Television International (WIFTI) joins in that celebration with a Short Film Showcase. These films are made by members from Women in Film & Television chapters around the world, selected and compiled by WIFTI.  Kicking off the Showcase is the short film titled   Mbeti: The Road to Kisesni by NMWIF Member Ann Bromberg. Her film was chosen as one of the top four films submitted to the Showcase.

We will also screen our new PSA, produced by NMWIF member Valerie Moore, featuring New Mexico Film Foundation. And come meet our newly elected Board Members who are now part of the NMWIF Board of Directors, Christine McHugh and Ashley Baca.
