Dinner and a Movie
When was the last time, or first time for that matter, you had dinner and a movie with the filmmakers? Uncle Bill’s home movies don’t count. Award-winning screen writer Mark Medoff is coming to Silver City to screen his new film, “The Heart Outright.” The director Ross Marks will also be here. We are calling the event “Dinner and a Movie.” An Italian-themed dinner will be served on the patio next to Light Hall on WNMU’s Silver City Campus. Diners will have an opportunity to meet the filmmakers. They will also introduce their production in the historic theatre.
The events are scheduled for Sunday, August 6, 2017. The al fresco dinner will be served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The bar will be open from 5:30 to 7:00. The filmmakers will introduce their work at 7:00 p.m. in WNMU’s Light Hall Theatre. After the showing, a VIP reception will be held at Datura Day Spa in downtown Silver City.
Tickets for dinner and movie are $25 per person. Movie-only tickets are $10. The VIP reception for supporters of the Silver Screen Society are $50. Tickets will be available at Gila Hike & Bike, Manzanita Ridge and the WNMU Office of Cultural Affairs in Hunter Hall. This special presentation is supported by the Rotary Club of Silver City and Western New Mexico University.

Writing and Imagining the Short Film Workshop
Matthew McDuffie, screenwriter and director (Face of Love with Annette Bening and Ed Harris, Burning Bodhi with Kaley Cuoco and Virginia Madsen – at the Cannes Film Festival this past May, Toronto Film Festival this September) will hold a series of classes for filmmakers (and aspiring filmmakers) focusing on writing and imagining the short film.
Students will not only master the fundamentals of screenwriting, and the emotional algorithms involved in the creation of a good story, but will also learn to think visually, and to write cinematically; and all involved will come out of these seminars with at least one well-crafted short screenplay, and a profound sense of how to shoot them, i.e., how to direct.
Each workshop will consist of four intimate classes (ten or so students).
Date: August 9/10, August 16/17
Time: 6:30 PM
Location: Arts Lab UNM
