It's time to get your writing groove on again! 


The first round judges for the competition were all Board Members of Women In Film And Television International (WIFTI) chapters from around the U.S.. The final round was judged by Leslie Dixon, who numbers among her screenwriting credits, “Mrs. Doubtfire”, “Outrageous Fortune” and “The 85 th Annual Academy Awards” and Producer of “Gone Girl” and “Limitless”.

John Broadhead takes away the top prize of $1000 with his gothic western, “The Ghosts Of Sable Valley” which Ms. Dixon called, “A nice classic little ghost story with a twist.” 1st Runner-Up, Kathryn Phipps will be awarded $500 for her screenplay, “Double Rig” with 2 nd Runner Up, Ashley Serrao receiving $250 for her short film script, “Dinner Guest”.

This award is meant to highlight aspiring New Mexico screenwriters who have an intriguing story with a central female character.

Residents of New Mexico have a chance to submit a 10 page screenplay with a female central character.  Entrant does not have to be a member of NMWIF to submit a script.  Submitted scripts must be original screenplays and the sole property of the applicant(s).  The script must have a female protagonist and/or strong female theme.  

All ages are eligible.  However, a parent or guardian must sign the entry form for any author under eighteen (18) years of age.  All entries will be judged using the same standards regardless of age.  

The winner will receive a cash award of $1000, the NMWIF Athena Screenwriting Award and a table reading of their winning script at a NMWIF event in July, 2015.  The two runners-up will also receive prizes: Second place $500 and Third place $250.00. 

The submission process will open February 15, 2016 and must be received no later than May 1, 2016.  Submissions received after May 1, 2016 will not be considered.  The winners will be notified before July 15, 2016.
